Krikey Media works within multi-disciplinary teams on progressive land-use development, community sustainability initiatives, and green building and infrastructure projects.
Complex projects require a balance of technical knowledge (depth) and integrated thinking (breadth), as multiple and often competing factors are continually at play throughout the project life-cycle. Ensuring an efficient and complementary interplay between these factors depends on clear communication and an open-minded approach to sustainability.
What is sustainability?
‘To sustain’ has many definitions: to suffer, maintain, support, keep alive, help, and to uphold. This last meaning denotes continuing on a steady path, or keeping up a perpetual motion. But we need to go beyond these definitions as we look into the future. We can do better. In fact, we can do excellent. We need to reach beyond sustainability and strive for transcendence.
Evolution of our economy, our integration within the natural environment, and the social gains which result from prosperity and stability are all inherent to the concept of sustainability.
Projects undertaken by Krikey Media encompass the following areas of interest:
LAND
For much of the 20th Century, the focus was on where we lived. In the 21st Century, how we live is becoming equally important.
Areas of Interest:
- Sustainable land development
- Site adaptive planning and design
- Green building and infrastructure
- Infill and mixed-use developments
- Waste technology
ENERGY
Human society is in a giant transitional phase of history. For the last 150 years, the global economy has been singularly dependent on cheap and plentiful fossil fuels. A sustainable future depends on how quickly and how well we can shift, to both a highly efficient use of traditional fuels on a global scale and the development of diverse, renewable energy sources at the local level.
Areas of Interest:
- Conservation education
- Alternative energy technologies (geothermal, solar thermal, biomass, run-of-the-river hydroelectric, etc.)
- Development of localized power projects
- Emergent technologies for sequestering Green House Gas (GHG) emissions from fossil fuel production
HEALTH
Physical and mental health is enmeshed with our physical and social surroundings
Areas of Interest:
- Preventative health care, including nutrition and physical activity
- Food and water security
- Social justice issues
DESIGN
Simply put, design means how we create both form and function. Design—both good and bad—has profound implications for us both physically and psychologically.
Areas of Interest:
- Branding, graphics and the visual arts
- Architecture and interior design
- Ergonomic and universal design
BUSINESS
Traditional notions of economic growth and affluence need to be balanced with a more thoughtful understanding of prosperity, sustainability and well-being.
Areas of Interest:
- Analysis of internal and external communication modes and outcomes
- Messaging for both public and media relations
- Linear and circular partnerships, in business and the community
